Summer 2021 Book Recommendations
I always have my nose in a book during the summer. Whether I'm in my backyard or on the beach, I love a fun summer read. Here are a few I'd recommend for this upcoming sunshine...
Joyland by Stephen King
This one is truly a summer thriller. It's more of a mystery than a horrific, and it surprisingly has a lot of heart. Travel back to 1973 on this coming of age tale about a college boy that travels to North Carolina to work in an amusement park. Learn about the carny lifestyle, follow along with a murder mystery, and brace yourself with a sentimental summer read.
Know My Name by Chanel Miller
Author and artist Chanel Miller is so much more than the Jane Doe we met during the brock turner trial. She is a daughter, a friend, a comedian, an advocate, and a source of comfort to all of us that have been negatively affected by rape culture. Miller's story is heartbreaking and raw, but her writing style makes you feel like you're so much less alone in the world. This memoir is must read!
All the Rage by Courtney Summers
Courtney Summers is such a hidden gem author! This fictional tale tells the story of Romy Grey, a sexual assault survivor fighting for justice and just trying to make it through the day. This book sucked me in from the minute I picked it up. It's a thriller, it's raw, and it's an intense quick read.
Swimming Lessons by Lili Reinhart
Lili Reinhart, the actress we all grew to love for her portrayal of Betty Cooper on Riverdale, tries her hand at poetry with her debut book. Her unique use of poetry paints pictures of young love, anxiety, and all the joys of coming of age. It's an easy read for anyone looking to get into poetry without profound reflection. I felt I could relate to everything she was saying, and she inspired me to keep writing poems of my own.
